Yellow Fruits

Yellow is a color we often see in nature, and in some of the most recognizable fruits around. Bananas are probably one of the first yellow objects children learn to name. They’re such a familiar part of our lives that it’s easy to forget they’re tropical fruits, and are even considered exotic in some parts of the world.

After red, yellow is the second most common color in fruits. This bright color comes from natural pigments called carotenoids, which are found in many plants. Carotenoids give fruits like bananas, pineapples, and mangoes their golden yellow color. They also create the orange color in fruits like, well, oranges, for example. That’s why some fruits, like mangoes, can sometimes appear orange as well.

Carotenoids are not just for looks — they help protect the fruit as it grows and can also benefit our health. Some, like beta-carotene, turn into vitamin A in the body, which supports healthy eyes and skin. That’s one reason yellow fruits are both colorful and nutritious.
